It's an interesting question & i certainly think Chilton is suspect..he IS NOT written well of, but in the long run does it matter? The war was inevitable, as was the outcome. As watershed events go it had more than its' share of strange & odd circumstances. Consider the story of Wilmer McClain (moving from the Manassas battlefield to Appomatox to escape the conflict), just what are the odds! As puritan as it sounds, I think the hand of God is wrtten all over the lost orders and the entire war for that matter. Great site Lowell & thanks for the opportunity to join in.
